Frequently Asked Questions

1. How am I to know if a market alert has triggered?

If you have not received your alerts you can check to see if they triggered from the Alerts interface.

If in the alerts interface a given alert has triggered, but you have not received an SMS or Email from us for that alert and the alert is not in your spam folder then please contact us feedback@zignals.com

2. How many stocks can go into a stocklist?

We currently limit the number of stocks to 100 per stocklist. We recommend users create stocklists using our Active Stock Screener; this is the fastest and most effective way to create dynamic stock lists for your alerts. However, stocklists can be created manually by adding stocks directly to a list.

Because of our global market coverage and the frequent occurrence of shared symbols across exchanges, it's necessary to add stocks on an individual basis to ensure the correct stock (for exchange) is used.

3. What's the difference between an "EMA" and a "SMA"?

The "EMA" is an Exponential Moving Average and the "SMA" is a Smooth Moving Average. The two most common moving averages in use are the 50-day SMA and 200-day SMA.

4. How do I set a volume alert?

The volume alert is a special alert which triggers when the daily volume crosses a given % threshold of daily average volume.

For example, an alert which triggered on double the average volume over 60-days would look like:

"Daily volume is 200% or more of 60-day SMA of volume"

Volume alerts trigger intraday once the threshold is crossed.

5. How do I know which market alerts are intraday and which are end-of-day?

Alerts can be triggered either intraday, end-of-day or in some cases intraday and end-of-day. The following table gives the expected frequency for delivery

6. Which market alerts are real-time and which are 20-minute delayed?

Our US stock data is real-time, but all other exchanges are 20-minute delayed. Therefore stock alerts for US stocks should be received within minutes of the event, but all other market alerts will be delayed.

7. How do I create more complex or conditional alerts?

For advanced alerts we recommend using the Strategy Builder to construct alerts with multiple event triggers – including technical and candlestick parameters. The Strategy Builder is a unique service which allows you to design and back-test a trading strategy which can then be sold in our Marketplace

8. I am not receiving alerts via SMS (or are receiving delayed SMS alerts), but do get alerts by email?

In delivery options is SMS configured correctly with the correct country code (flag) for the phone number? Is the SMS checkbox selected? It's also important to ensure SMS Availability coincides with the times you wish to receive alerts. Alerts which trigger outside of the "green zone" will be delivered at the start of the next "green zone".

9. I can't find stocks for my exchange?

We currently provide stocks from US exchanges, London, Dublin, Australia, Mumbai, Frankfurt and the Euronext. If there is an exchange you are looking for please drop us a line at feedback@zignals.com for future data provisions will be dependent on demand for them.

10. I can't find a stock but it's listed under an exchange available at Zignals?

Zignals has over 10,000 stocks available in the public domain but we have access to many more. If there is a stock which falls under the listed exchanges and doesn't appear to be available then send us the details to feedback@zignals.com and we will endeavour to include it.

11. How do I add comments to a market alert?

With the Note feature you can add a limited body of text to an alert which is delivered as part of the email, but does not form part of the SMS message.

12. I have a new idea for a market alert.

Send your suggestions to feedback@zignals.com. We are building a resource pool of requests for alert types which may be converted into a full-blown market alert.

13. Can I set a market alert for the bid or ask?

At this time it's not possible to set market alerts based on the bid or the ask, only the most recently traded price is used for monitoring.

14. Where else can I see my alerts?

Alerts which have triggered are also displayed on a chart for the stock or are available in our MarketPortal. Alerts can also be tracked using the iGoogle widget.

15. Who covers the cost of delivering SMS messages?

We do for now, although a limit on the number of free SMS per month may be set in the future

16. Can I change the email address used for delivery?

All alerts are automatically configured for email delivery. You can change the email for delivery in the market alert settings; ensure the ‘Subscribe' check box is ticked. If you no longer want to receive alerts by email, simply uncheck the box.
